Everyone Is Eating Blossoms !

Another culinary accomplishment for me.... I have so longed dreamed of making stuffed squash blossoms. And the past two days, I have succeeded. During the girl's nap on Sunday, I groomed the garden for some green beans and saw 2 just-fallen-off squash blossoms. I have watched so many blossoms fall off before and always wondered just how to cook them. I have searched recipes in books and the internet and found myself just too intimidated. But when I picked up those two blossoms, I knew I was going to try it, but my hopes were not set too high.

I found some instructions on a cooking blog and added my own improvisations. I delicately removed the stamens of these male blossoms (as the female blossoms stay on the plants to produce the vegetables). I prepared a ricotta-parmesan-reggiano-basil filling and so gently filled the blossoms with it, using a baby spoon.

A twist of the ends of the blossoms and they were ready to be dipped... into flour, then egg, then a flour-cornmeal combo. Deep fried for a couple minutes in oil and ready to be tasted.
My first bite knocked me off my feet (and I think I cried).

I finished one of the two I made and then shared the last with my neighbor (as I had to borrow some sun dried tomatoes from her) so I could get confirmation that I was not dreaming. She loved it!

The next night, I made a bunch more, for Steve and the girls. Syd really liked it, saying "yummy" during her first bite. Mel wanted to try what we all were raving about, and she ate two blossoms herself! An absolutely delicious treat!
