Steve has been taking the girls to the park a lot recently. A couple days ago she befriended a 4 year old boy who asked her to play with him, "The King and The Princess." So they did. He was "The King" and Syd was "The Princess." When Steve told me about this I held my breath wondering what or how they played fairy-tale together. All they did was run up and slide down the jungle gym. So far, so innocent...
Last night after reading books together, Syd wanted to tell me a bedtime story. Not something we have really done in the past, but I was curious to listen to whatever type of story she could come up with. So she started telling me about a momma bird and a baby bird... the momma bird left the room and the baby bird was alone... (i asked, "what happened next?)... a kitty cat came up to the baby bird... (I found myself holding my breath again, but managed to ask, "what happened next?")... ummm, the baby bird got torned!
So instead of asking anything else, I quickly ended her story time and rushed her into bed. She confessed that daddy told her the story in the garage early in the day. Boy, did I have to speak with Steve! So I put her to bed and tried reaching Steve at work. After one text message and two call attempts, I was able to ask him about the seemingly gruesome story Syd told me. He laughed, amazed that she remembered so much of what he told her. Apparently it was a parable of sorts, trying to teach Syd to listen to daddy's instructions so she would not get hurt, just like the baby bird needed to listen to the momma bird's instructions to keep from getting snatched up by the kitty cat.
On a lighter note, I bought the girls some matching bathing suits for this upcoming summer. Here they are modeling...
